Torn ligaments in the ankle are commonly called sprained ankles. These incredibly common injuries may range from inconvenient to excruciating, depending upon the extent of the tears.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is the term for a painful condition affecting the median nerve. The median nerve runs the length of the arm and is responsible for feeling and movement of the forearm, wrist, and your fingers. This nerve is housed inside the carpal tunnel, which is a narrow passageway of ligaments and bones located at the base of the hand.

Surgery for a torn meniscus will be indicated after an Dr. Silver uses an arthroscope to view the inside of your knee, to confirm the medial meniscus tear. A medial meniscus tear occurs frequently in athletes who play high contact, or high collision sports including football and hockey.

Injuries to the knee such as a meniscus tear won't heal on their own. Also known as "torn cartilage," the meniscus is located between your femur (thigh bone) and tibia (shin bone).

Rotator cuff tears are very common, and very successfully treated with arthroscopic surgery. Rotator cuff injuries are often seen in men and women in the San Fernando Valley who perform overhead motions repeatedly.

As far as shoulder pain goes, the culprit is generally a rotator cuff injury. However, when you're experiencing shoulder pain with limited motion, popping noises, and/or grinding when you move your shoulder the cause is often an A-C joint injury.
